Coach Biographies

Tyson LAWLEY;- Tyson started playing hockey when he was 13 and then at 15 he started playing competitively. He played low levels of hockey until he took power skating with Edges and then after that became a top tier player. He still plays men's league and enjoys hitting up the outdoor rink a few times a month.

Tyson received his Journeyman Ironworking certificate in November of 2010. He is married and has two sons, Asher (2) and Tucker (6 months). Asher has recently found a love for hockey and thanks to Tammy got his first pair of skates, he is already skating and loves to be on the ice!

Michael HOWLETT- Michael is one of the coaches known as the "Young Guns" and you'll see him on the ice almost everyday. He started with Edges as a student in his second year of Novice and at the age of 15 he began his Edges coaching career. He is now coaching for his third straight year.

Michael began playing hockey at the age of 4 in the Hawks Initiation progeam and remained with the Hawks organization through Bantam. In 2012, he entered Midget hockey with one of the Tier 4 Northwest Zone teams and the following year he made the jump to Miidget Tier 1. His final year of Midget was spent playing Midget AA hockey with the Canadian Athletic Club where he was also an affiliate player for the AAA team. He attributes his rapid advancement through Midget to the Power Skating instruction he received during his many years with Edges.

With his Minor Hockey behind him, Michael will explore potential opportunities in Junior Hockey while working towards a business degree. He also hopes to be part of the Edges team for many years to come.
Kyle BUDINSKI- Kyle has been coaching with Edges for the past 3 years and has been able to take on more responsibilities. Kyle started starting playing at the age of 5 and has been instructed by Edges for many years.

Kyle no longer plays competitive hockey, but he still continues to play men's league. Kyle is currently in his first year of his Bachelor of Commerce at Grant MacEwan University.
Brock BROKENSHIRE - Brock is a Red Seal Journeyman Carpenter who is self employed framing and building custom homes. In spite of being very busy with business and two children, Brock makes time in his schedule for at least one day a week of power skating. He has been coaching power skating for 10+ years and really enjoys seeing the kids improve through the years. Brock has been playing hockey since he was 5 and still enjoys playing. He has coached minor hockey at the Bantam A & AA levels as well as Initiation, Novice and Atom. Brock has his hockey Coach Level Certification and Developmental One as well as his softball Coach Level Certification. He also helped to bring Coach Development Courses to the Edmonton Girls Hockey Association during this time with the organization.
Doug CAMERON - Doug is a part-time volunteer coach with Edges and a member of the Board of Directors of Superskate Advanced Hockey Development Association. He really enjoys working with the young skaters, encouraging and motivating. Doug is an economic development professional with the Alberta Government marketing Alberta, attracting business investment and promoting international trade for Alberta companies. He has over 24 years of experience at his day job and 51 years of hockey behind him. He’s played a lot of hockey, and still does a couple times a week. Doug is an avid landscape photographer, although you may see him from time to time snapping shots on the ice too. Doug is currently President of a local volleyball association, a former Edmonton area Rotarian and Club President, and was active in boys and girls hockey for over 15 years. Doug is married to Monica with a son (Brayden) who is pursuing his CA designation and a daughter (Brianne) who is registered in the School of Nursing at the University of Alberta.
Devin ELEY - Blink and you might miss seeing Devin on the ice! No, it’s not because of his blinding speed; it’s because these days, Devin is only able to coach with Edges PSI on a part- time basis…and no, unfortunately he doesn’t have blinding speed, either. Although his day job currently keeps him from coaching regularly, he does get out occasionally and he is extremely excited to be part of the 24-hour Charity Challenge. Devin has been on skates and playing hockey since the age of 4. He started out playing in Tom Thumbs with the Lorelei Community League. From there, he joined the Hawks Athletic Club in Atom, and then on to the North West Zone for bantam and midget. These days, Devin enjoys playing in recreational leagues in both summer and winter. He also gets out to the outdoor rinks to play shinny as much as he can
Ken GLOWINSKI - Ken is one of the more “senior” coaches with Edges. His involvement is generally with the younger age groups which keep him hopping!! He has played hockey up to the Junior B level, playing in the first year the league started in the 1970’s. Ken has extensive past experience coaching hockey teams from the pre- novice to bantam levels. He has two sons, Brad and Grant, also instructors with Edges. Throw in wife Judy who helps with events like the 24-hour game, and we aren’t kidding when we talk about the Edges family!
Brad GURBA - Brad Gurba is an alumni coach with Edges who has been part of the team since the mid- 90’s, still lacing up his skates occasionally to work with the students on their skills. Brad first learned to skate on the family backyard rink in Bruderheim when he was 2, started playing when he was 4, and still actively plays in two leagues. Brad’s daughter, Braelynn, is currently an Edges student and has been developing into a great skater. She is enjoying playing ringette, and Brad is a volunteer assistant coach helping out at practices and teaching the girls power skating principles.  It’s a bit of a change after 37 years of hockey, but he thinks he has finally learned all the ringette rules! Sport, hockey & skating have always been an important part of Brad’s life, and he hopes to continue to be active and help when he can, especially with causes like this.
John LAWLEY - John has been with Edges for five years now, and one of the very recognizable coaches that has been around for the majority of classes in recent years.
He started playing in bantam for the Hawks, then played midget for the Northwest Zone. He skipped his last year of midget to play junior C for the Edmonton Firebirds with his brother Tyson (also an Edges coach). He currently is working for Canadian Dewatering Edmonton so unfortunately we see him a little less at the rink these days! But he truly is one of our great success stories. When he first came to Edges, he could only stop one way and his crossovers were more of a turn. John is now among the best of our instructors, and that’s really saying something because we have some great skating coaches!!
Doug STOKER - Doug is a Superskate board member who also helps out on the ice with the classes. He enjoys giving back to a sport that has given him many fond memories over the years. Born and raised in Montreal, Doug starting playing hockey at age 5. He played all the years through to college, where he played at AAA Collegiate Division at Dawson College. He moved to Edmonton in 1991, and has been involved with Edges for almost 10 years now. Away from the rink, he is a commercial lines insurance broker and his favourite pastimes are golfing and skiing.
Raelene SYDOR - Raelene began helping with regular power skating for Edges a few years ago, but for 2012-2013 she worked exclusively with the Goalie sessions. She played Midget AAA Female for the St. Albert Slash, where they won the North division title as well as hosted the Western Canadian Midget Championships in 2008. She attended post-secondary at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, USA where she played goal for 4 years for the Pioneers. A recent 2012 graduate, Raelene is now working for Ernst & Young, LLP as a staff auditor, working towards her CA designation. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, camping, and hanging out with friends and family."
